The Hounds

A little while ago my cousin told us about her brothers new company, The Hounds.  I was happy for Adam and excited to support him in any way that I could. I have always talked about how I have such a giving heart.  I feel that I am always trying to help someone, whether they be in need or just need a little extra love, I am always wanting to help anyone out.  Adam’s company is another way to help those in need. If you are interested in purchasing you can do so here.

“How It Works

That’s where you come in. For every shirt purchased, The Hounds will provide a school uniform to a child in need. The uniforms are distributed via local nonprofits already working in communities across the country. Our pilot partner is the organization, Inner City Impact (ICI). ICI was established over 40 years ago and maintains ties within the communities they serve. Located on the westside of Chicago, it provides kids across the city with tutoring, mentoring, after-school programs, and sleepaway camps just to name a few. Many families rely upon ICI to be a helping hand as they seek to raise their kids well.

Every shirt you purchase provides a child with a school uniform. The process is simple.

You SHOP for your size and color. Once you make a PURCHASE, The Hounds ships your order directly to you. Afterwards a uniform DONATION is made to local partner organizations so that a child receives a much needed uniform.”

“Our Story

The Hounds Ltd is a happy collision of founder Adam Muncy’s love of fashion and philanthropy. His background working with inner city youth birthed in him a desire to help the underserved. This time left an impression on him over the years. And he mulled over creative ways to walk alongside those breaking out of the poverty cycle. Out of these ruminations, The Hounds was created.

The Hounds combines Adam’s love of fashion with helping kids. Its mission is to provide school uniforms to underprivileged kids for every oxford shirt purchased. For the economically challenged, school uniforms can be a financial burden that’s hard to overcome. Education is a vital necessity in a child’s life. It provides a world of opportunity to a child seeking to break out of poverty. And many schools require uniforms for each student. When thinking of ways to help, Adam had conversations with nonprofits who consistently mentioned the need to help families with school uniforms. These uniforms have been shown to reduce bullying, help students focus on school and build school pride.”

I am so proud of Adam for pursuing his dreams and trying to make the world a better place, one shirt/uniform at a time.  I know he would appreciate all the support anyone would like to give him.

Devotional Review

SO this past few months have just been crazy busy.  I feel like I have had no time to sit down and just think, but that is what happens when you have a 6 month old at home who is eating every 2 hours still … geesh!

Anyway, I wanted to stop by today and share a new devotional that I started.

_240_360_book-2077-cover

The title of this devotional caught my eye and I knew I wanted to get the book and see where it takes me.  I have had this devotional for about a month now but wanted to start it in the new year.  We are on day 5 now and I couldn’t love this book anymore.  The entries vary with John sharing personal stories in his life and how he used leadership and the other days tying everyday leadership ideas with the Bible and how they used those same concepts.

I love seeing how it all ties to the Bible.  How we do certain things yet when we think about it David was the first person to ever to this leadership style, etc.  I am really enjoying this devotional and would highly recommend picking it up.

Faith Fuel Box Review

Today I am bringing you the Faith Fuel Box Review

I love a good subscription box.  I think I have literally tried almost all of them out there at one time or another.  Stitch fix is amazing of course, I just recently tried Le Tote and Honest Beauty.  I wanted to find a subscription box that has meaning behind it or something that would send a lasting impression on me.

A few months back I won a giveaway with Chamel and fell in love with her products.  I immediately wanted to go to her store and buy everything she had to offer, I still use all the items I received from that giveaway.  When I saw that she had started a faith fuel box, I knew right away I was going to purchase one to see the amazing products she had lined up.

IMG_4625 IMG_4626 IMG_4627 IMG_4629 IMG_4630 IMG_4632 IMG_4633 IMG_4634 IMG_4635 IMG_4637 IMG_4638 IMG_4640 IMG_4641 IMG_4642 IMG_4643

I just love the box in general, you can tell that each piece has a unique quality to it and it is all so uplifting.  I have pieces from this box all over my house so I can find daily reminders that I am ENOUGH, that I am perfect in his eyes.  Each piece is hand-picked and has a purpose driven message behind it.

*** If you want to place an order use code: MELISSA and you will get an extra little happy in your box!!  WOOHOO!!!

I would highly recommend the Faith Fuel Box.  If you are looking for a new subscription box or even if you just want to try one month go check it out! If you are a business owner and want to get involved, reach out to Chamel via Twitter or Instagram.

Our Little Garden

Today I am sharing our little garden the girls and I did. I received the garden in my FabFitFun box awhile back and I was pretty excited when I got it because it was something fun I could do with the girls.

When I told them we were going to make a little garden with three herbs in it they were so excited.  They wanted to do everything when it came to the garden and here is how it turned out:

IMG_4562 IMG_4563 IMG_4564 IMG_4565 IMG_4567 IMG_4568 IMG_4569

We had so much fun putting our little herb garden together and sadly we haven’t grown anything.  Unfortunately our house gets little to no natural sunlight and we don’t really have a great place or ledge to place something like this.  Plus …. I am not very good at remembering to water plants and now with a newborn YEAH forget it :).

What are some of your favorite things to grow?

May ** What I Read

Hello readers.  Today I am sharing my May ** What I read. As many of you know I am currently 9 months pregnant and have about a week to go before our little baby boy will be here and reading has not been at the top of my priority list.  I have been wanting to read and then find myself falling asleep in the middle …. OOPS!!

Anyway, this month I actually got to finish four books and I was pretty proud of myself for that.  I read the following books this month:

  • Pressing Pause
  • The One and Only
  • Hope Unfolding
  • I Didn’t want to be that Girl

_240_360_Book.1869.cover

Pressing Pause was such a fun, easy read.  I am actually currently still in the process of reading it but only because it breaks down like a devotional.  There are not labeled days or directions that say read one a day but with me being pregnant and reading being a little bit of a challenge lately, I decided this would be the easier route to go.

We all have those moments, especially as moms (parents) where we need a break.  I wish we could be on Saved by the Bell and Zack Morris would call a time out so that I could just take a breather and not lash our or scream at my kids  …. but who am I kidding that can’t happen in real life so I try to send the girls to do something or walk out of the room and just take a few deep breaths.  This book puts into perspective that you aren’t alone.  We all need those breathers and need to take a “pause” from our kids.

The book is easy to read and follow and is very relatable.

The One and Only.  Aww what a lovely book.  I have been wanting to read this book forever.  I love Emily Giffin’s writing and have been looking and looking at this for as long as I can remember … since it came out pretty much!  A few weeks ago my dad asked if I wanted to go to the book store so I said sure and lucky enough they had the hardback version of this book on sale for $6.  Yes I said $6 … how could I pass that up?

This book is interesting and I don’t want to spoil anything for those who have not read it but it takes an interesting look on a relationship about love.  It is unusual in my opinion but I know it happens but not sure how often.  We can’t help who we fall in love with and this story is proof of that.  It as always is a super easy read and the way that Emily writes is just beautiful.  You definitely will not be able to put the book down.

Hope Unfolding is another book that I did for review purposes and I am so glad that God called me to choose this book.  The book has lots of stories in it and she shows you how you aren’t alone in anything you do.  Whatever you are feeling or going through, someone else out there has been through it as well.

The book makes you look at situations and really think about them.  It is about doing our best because our best is always good enough.  God calls us to do his work, his deeds, his positive callings.  There are so many things that can happen throughout our day but if we try our best and get what we can achieved then God is going to be happy with us.

Becky writes in a way that you feel like you are sitting right there in the room with her and you two are best friends.  I loved reading her stories and seeing how she tied them into her grace-filled life.

I am part of a blogging group on Facebook and Sue reached out to us and asked if anyone wanted to do a review for her new Bible study based on Eve.  I of course jumped right on it.  I love doing book reviews and Bible studies have been really growing on me and I love taking a much deeper look at God’s words and seeing how much I can relate and translate into my life.

This Bible study is not really like many that I have done in the past.  I am a huge Beth Moore fan and Sue’s writing is right up there with Beth’s.  I love the personal stories within the Bible studies.  She doesn’t just write to be writing she is relating each day and educational piece to her real life.  The study is easy to read and follow with each day being a perfect length.  I am not struggling to finish or get through each day, I enjoy each day and love the layout of the whole study. The study is also very relatable, Sue writes her stories in a way that you can see how it can relate to your life.  We have all been in similar situations and to see how she relates those stories to the study portion is amazing.   Each day is broken down into reading, applying, quotes, and then in the end there is an ending question and I love them.  I love those ending questions.  They make me think about all that we have read for the day and how I can take what I have learned and applied it to my life.

I would highly recommend any of these four books that I read this month.  I am very happy with the choices that I made and I hope that some of you will pick one of them up and enjoy them as much as I did.

Bloom

Hello … today I am sharing my opinions on the Bloom Voxbox from Influenster.

IMG_4587 IMG_4589 IMG_4590 IMG_4593IMG_4594

I fell in love with the Bloom Voxbox as soon as I opened it.  The box included the following:

  • Cutex nail polish remover pads – these are a game changer.  I was a little skeptical at first but once I used one it was prefect.  It was the perfect amount of remover and did all my toes in one pad.  Love these!
  • Nail polish- this is part of the new Kylie Jenner collection and I loved the color I was given.  Teal is my favorite color and this is a perfect shade!
  • Not your mother’s plump for job for your hair – I did not use this.  I have a TONNNN of hair and it is already full and thick so I did not want to use this product to make it even worse. :).
  • Nuxe – dry oil for your hair, face, and body.  Love the way my face feels after from it!
  • Secret deodorant – again loved this and it is perfect travel size to throw into your purse or gym bag, etc. There are many options for this size.
  • Sunbelt granola bar – YUMMY!!  I of course ate this right away and it was delicious as always :).

Overall, I loved everything in this box with the exception of the one product I cannot use.  I will definitely gift it to someone who can use some plump in their hair.

7 Women and the Secret to Their Greatness Review

Hello readers.  Today I am bringing you the 7 Women and the Secret to Their Greatness Review.

_240_360_Book.1671.cover

This book really caught my attention as soon as I saw it as an option.  I was excited to learn about women in our culture and how they had such a huge impact on the world during their time.

I was never one to like history in school … ok who am I kidding, I HATED history.  I never paid attention and is probably the reason why I cannot recall many …. if any history facts or information.  Matt makes fun of me all the time because I don’t know simple history facts or people and he always has to explain things to me.

The book explores 7 women and the impact they had on this world.  They are 7 women that you have all heard of, however, may not have paid such close attention to where you know all the ins and outs of their power or influence.  I really enjoyed getting to know these females and how exactly their influence came about.

Covergirl Review

*** I received the Covergirl Voxbox from Influenster in exchange for my honest reviews.

I received the Covergirl Voxbox and was so excited to try the two items I got.  I am not much for wearing makeup in general but I love finding a great mascara.  I usually only wear lip gloss so the lip color was a big change for me.

IMG_4394 IMG_4395

The mascara was pretty nice.  It was a perfect black color.  It did add some definition to my lashes.  I have rather long lashes to begin with so mascara doesn’t really do much to my lashes. I have found very few that have added definition but this one did and I would definitely purchase this as an easy, quick every day mascara to wear.

mascara

The lip color was very different for me.  I am a clear lip gloss or chapstick girl.  I don’t tend to wear makeup at all so just applying it was pretty comical.  Really I should have taped it so you guys could see how awkward it was :).  I did like the color though, it went on smoothly and didn’t feel like I had a ton of it on.  The color was very bold for me, so if I did purchase it, it would have to be a lighter more natural color.

lipstick

Overall, I liked both items, however, I am not sure I would wear the lip color out.  It was really bold for me.

What is your favorite mascara or lip color?

What I Read this Month

Today I usually link up with Collaboreads, however, I was a little torn by the topic and couldn’t really get into it so I decided to just skip this month and continue reading as I normally would.

Here is what I read this month:

  1. Safe at Last by Maya Banks – I love Maya Banks books.  She has a number of series out, they are a little intense and the language isn’t the best but I absolutely love the story lines.  This one hit a serious topic and how it can affect and damage your whole world.
  2. Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas – I am sure a number of you have read this, however, I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about, is, or will be married in their life.  This book hit home in so many ways and love the meaning behind the book.  I will be doing a more detailed review of this on the blog in the next few weeks.
  3. Summerland by Elin Hilderbrand – I read another one of her books a few months back for Collaboreads and loved her writing.  My mother in law picked this one up and I couldn’t wait to read it.  Just as I thought it wouldn’t disappoint.  This one was about a teenage car accident and how a small town deals and grieves.

I know I didn’t read much this month but the three that I did read were up on my list of favorites.  I currently have about 20 books sitting on my book shelf waiting to be read.  I am hoping to knock a chunk of that out this month.

What did you read this month?

Qalo

ok so today I am bringing you a review on Qalo.  I happened upon Qalo about a year ago, a friend posted a picture of a ring and I was immediately drawn to it.

About_img_02_grande

As most of you know, I still play softball to this day and the one thing I hate is that I can’t wear my wedding rings.  I always feel naked without my rings on and honestly hate taking them off any time.  When I found Qalo I was super excited.

Qalo sells rubber rings.  They are an easy alternative to wedding rings when you are doing things that could ruin your beautiful rings or cause damage to them.  My mom broke her finger once and had to have her ring cut off and I never wanted that to happen so I have always taken them off.  Now I can take them off but still be excited about it because I just replace it with my Qalo ring, it’s a win – win.

Qalo is an amazing company and I love what they represent and that I can still honor my wedding vows and my hubby by wearing my Qalo ring when I cannot wear my real wedding rings.

IMG_0546 IMG_0549 IMG_0550 IMG_0551 IMG_0552

Have you tried Qalo?  What color would you pick?
