February Reads

Easter Beginnings
I loved this little book for the kids.  It is a little pocket-sized book all about Easter.  Filled with stories, Bible verses, and little devotionals.  I loved that the words in this are super easy to read and my girls can read it to their brother.  They not only can read it but learn from the little words in this book that bring so much meaning to life.

I am
I am is a devotional book.  It is a 60 day devotional all about you.  Each day has a meaning I AM … encouraging you to know that you are special, you are unique, and were made exactly the way God wanted us to be.  The book is an easy read and I love how she is relating the book to her life and showing how she is each thing.  I wish the book would relate on a more general purpose for a devotional.  I found some days a little hard to relate to my life and how I am enough. Each day comes with an I AM phrase, a Bible verse, a 2-3 page read, a quote, and then a Who am I section.

Shaken

I really, really enjoyed this book.  I was hesitant at first to read the book. I thought it was going to be a preachy, preachy book all about how he was such a great athlete and blah, blah, blah.  After picking up the book I couldn’t put it down.  The book was the complete opposite of what I thought it was going to be. It really wasn’t about his giant trip down memory lane of all the great things he did, rather it was about how each step of his life has impacted another in a powerful way. He shares how he gives all to God and how each and every success, failure, or set back was there for a reason.  He shares how life is so much more than playing football, or being a stay at home mom.  He really gave a general perspective to life and how each of us has a unique and strong journey in this world.  How we should use those times to do things that really matter and not be all consumed by one individual thing.

The Guys Behind the Blog

Today it is Matt’s turn to take over the blog again.  He finished these questions in about 3 minutes tops so they were either easy or he just didn’t want to elaborate on the answers.

  1. If you could write a book, what topic would you write about and why?

Little League Baseball – he is obviously a man because that was his whole answer so his why is probably because he has been playing since he can remember and has the best memories of baseball.

  2. what is one thing on your bucket list, or one thing that you would like to accomplish in your life?

Seeing the Cincinnati Reds in a world series game

  3. if you could look out your window and only see one view for the rest of your life, what would you see?

    Mountains

  4. Imagine you are opening shop, what are you selling?

indoor baseball lessons, or selling baseball knowledge

  5. If you could have 50 lbs. of anything other than money what would it be?

    autographed Reds/Cowboys merchandise

  6. Time to brag on your girl … tell us one thing that makes you proud of your wife?

3 college degrees … enough said!

Aww Thanks Matt … love you too!! Don’t forget to link up with Heavens to Betsy to join in!

A Year in Review on Instagram

2014 started out to be a pretty rough year with a death in the family and Kendall coming home from the hospital.  Our new year started out rough but the year turned out to be a pretty good year for our family and I can’t wait to see what 2015 holds.  Here is a review of 2014 in Instagram photos:

january

JANUARY – In January Matt took me on a fun date where we went to all of our special places.  It was just the two of us and we took a stroll down memory lane and just enjoyed having a whole day to ourselves

februaryFEBRUARY –  As many of you know I raise money each year for the March of Dimes and this past February I put together a 5K race to raise money for the March of Dimes.  It wasn’t a great turnout but I had so much fun putting it together and running the 5K.

marchMARCH – In March the girls discovered our new bathroom mirror and the art of seflies.  This was the start to the next 10,000+ selfies to come on mommy and daddy’s phone.

aprilAPRIL – In April we were published in a magazine.  I had submitted an article to Women’s World and a few months later they wrote back to us letting us know we were chosen and an article would be written about the girls and their journey.  We had an amazing editor working on our story and she captured the story perfect!

may may2MAY – In May I was baptized.  I decided to take a huge step in my faith and I have never looked back.  We also celebrated the girls turning 5!!

juneJUNE – In June, I celebrated 6 years of marriage to Matt!!

julyJULY – The girls got their first trophies for playing softball, although Brooke didn’t wind up playing, they both still got trophies.

augustAUGUST – August was a fun month and one of the things we were fortunate enough to do was the COLOR RUN.  We tried to do it in 2013 and as soon as we got to the race, our car broke down and we had to be towed all the way home.  This year we made it and we all had so much fun!

septemberSEPTEMBER – I joined the Kindness Project.  I 100% believe in the mission behind this group and am so glad that I was one of the bloggers chosen to help spread the word.

A New Monthly Prompt

Today I am joining a new monthly linkup.  I have joined in several before and never really followed through with them, however, this one is a monthly linkup with a given post for the 1st of each month.

JANUARY PROMPT: A letter to my younger self.

This is not just a random letter to my younger self but a letter about what my faith has taught me.

images

If you read my blog or follow me on social media, you know this past year I was baptized.  I have always believed in God but was never baptized until this past year.

Dear Melissa,

If there were things I wished you knew when you were younger it would be the following:

1. Don’t worry about what others think of you – This is something I have always followed and still to this day because of my faith.  God is the only one who can judge me and I don’t have to fit in or make myself someone I am not in order to fit in.  If you like me then you do, if not then just move on.  Don’t waste time pretending to be someone or something that you are not, it is a waste of everyone’s time.

2. Live your life to the fullest and ENJOY it!  I feel like most of your high school years were wasted because you were worried about sports and fitting in and then you just didn’t attend any events.  Don’t hold yourself back.  Go to football games, hang out with friends, stay up late, etc. Enjoy life while you are young and be as active as you can be!

3. Love yourself.  So much of your/our youth is wasted on hating ourselves or finding imperfections in our personality or our body image that we hate when we should be loving the body, attitude, mind, spirit, etc. that God has given us.  We are all unique and different for a reason and one day someone will come along that loves us for who we are and those little things that we complain about, they will LOVE!

4. Give.  Giving is something I have always done as well but wish I would have done more of when I was younger.  There are so many people in this world that need help or things way more than we do.  I have been told that if I gave as much as I wanted to that I would probably be broke and homeless because I would give it all away to help others.  I have never been one to not give but when I was younger, I never really thought about it.  So give, always give!!

I could probably continue on this list for the next few hours but I think I will stop there.  I have learned a lot as I have grown older and I am so thankful for my faith and the way it has continued to grow in my life as well as my families. I enjoy teaching the girls about God and the Bible and I can’t wait to see how they grow and change due to faith.

Parenting Tuesday – Our zoo trip

Today I am bringing the zoo to the blog.  This summer while Matt was on vacation, we decided we were going to take the girls to the zoo for the first time.  They really love animals and we knew they would love it so we figured why not take them and see how much they enjoy it. Here are some pictures from our special day:

Color Swap Revealed

When I first decided on the color swap, I was excited and nervous all at the same time because I wasn’t sure how many people I would get to sign up.  After getting the first day results I was blown away and couldn’t wait to start talking to my partner.

I was partnered with Anne from Love the Here and Now and I was so excited to get to know her. We quickly realized that we had a lot in common and started to connect right away.  Then she threw me for a loop and told me her favorite color was GOLD.  I don’t hate the color gold but it is something that I don’t buy often.  I had so much fun and started researching things right away.  Needless to say I probably went a little overboard but had a ton of fun finding awesome gold items for Anne.

My favorite color is teal, always has been.  I am just drawn to any shade of teal that I can find.  Anne had my items handmade and I fell totally in love when I received them.  I received a necklace as well as a wine glass with my blog name on it, which is something I would have never even thought of getting.

Messy, Beautiful Love

Messy Beautiful Love

Today I am doing a book review of Messy, Beautiful Love.  As a married woman I really related to this book and all the crazy adventures that we go through in life.  All marriages have their ups and downs and there are times where we want to give up and then we have our “perfect” moments where the world around us doesn’t exist.

We all make mistakes and we all have to work hard at our marriages and making sure that we continue to fight for our marriage.  We can’t just give up at the first sign of trouble.  We need to learn how to forgive and work past things together.  This book takes real life situations that can happen and she explains how she gets through certain situations and things that we can do to follow in her footsteps.

The book Messy, Beautiful Love is just what it sounds like.  Anyone who has been in love whether they are married or not comes with some messes, some beautiful moments and most of all love.  If we put love in the front of all those things then no matter what happens or what situations occur we can always come out on top.

Have you read this book?  How do you get through the messy difficult situations?

**Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher through BookLook Bloggers in exchange for my honest review.  I was not required to write a positive review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Parenting Tuesday – Medicine

Today for Parenting Tuesday and the Time for Mom blog link-up I wanted to share a little bit about medicine.  When you have a preemie they are more than likely going to come home on oxygen and some medicine.  Kendall came home on about 5 different medicines which all were different doses and all a different amount of times per day.

As a mom with two newborns and one needing this much attention I had to come up with a way to stay organized with medicines.  Medicines are no fun and people will have all kinds of reactions so you have to be very careful and make sure that all doses are given in the correct amounts and that they are given at correct times.  Messing up one dose can cause a number of problems.

When Kendall was on all kinds of medicines and even if they get sick and have medicine to this day I get out a piece of paper.  At the top of it I write down the medicine  name and how much for each dose.  I then make a chart showing the day/dose #/and a check mark to show that I have given it to her.  It seems a little complicated but the alternative of giving her too much or not enough medicine is far worse.

Don’t forget to link up your mommy post below!! 🙂

How do you keep track of medicines?
